In this video we will show the reaction between magnesium and copper oxide. We will cause these to react, as a result causing a bright white flash. To set this experiment up, we suspended a tin bottle top using an iron wire mesh. We then placed a mixture of copper oxide and magnesium in powdered form and of equal proportion into the bowl. We then lit a busen burner and heated the contents. This triggered the flash.

Here is a short snippet of film which uses the optical effect of Moire fringes in pieces of art. For more information about Moire fringes (in fact more information than any sane person would need) follow this link to Spectral Fringe...
The effect is produced by a red sheet of perspex with vertical lines etched in it swinging slowley behind and orange sheets with lines that are at a slight angle from the vertical. The blue sheet acts to increase the contrast.
